Master Of Hounds is likely to return to America for the Belmont Stakes on the back of a creditable effort in the Kentucky Derby.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien believes the Kingmambo colt will be suited by the third leg of the American Triple Crown at the New York track on June 11.
The Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 21, which forms the second leg, has been ruled out as O’Brien wants to give the Kentucky Derby fifth placegetter a break.
“We were delighted with his performance. Garrett (Gomez) felt he ran a lovely race and had a good position. He just said the pace went out of the race in the middle,” O’Brien told At The Races.
“He just got into a little bit of trouble and would have preferred the pace to be stronger.
“He said we should strongly think about going back and we might go back for the Belmont because the Preakness will come too quick.
“We think the Belmont should suit him.”
