Workforce has shown his well-being ahead of his clash with So You Think in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on Saturday with a pleasing workout at Newmarket.
Last year’s Derby and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, is sticking to 10 furlongs (2000m) after winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes over the course and distance last month.
“He worked nicely this morning at Newmarket. Everyone seemed very pleased. He picked up his lead horse nicely,” Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, told At The Races.
“We’re happy with him and he’s heading to Sandown.
“He put in a pretty smart performance in the Brigadier Gerard. He’s got a good turn of foot, so I don’t see why the trip should worry him.
“Twice Over probably won’t run, Confront could go as a pacemaker.”
In what promises to be a mouth watering Eclipse, Workforce is set to clash with ex-Aussie superstar So You Think and possibly Ed Dunlop’s filly Snow Fairy.
Dunlop withdrew Snow Fairy from Saturday’s Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh because of the soft ground.
“I saw the rain lashing down yesterday and it would have been her first run back this year after having an injury. If she’d have had a run we’d have done it (run),” Dunlop said.
“She’s in the Coral-Eclipse. We took the decision on Friday night to bring her back home from Ireland and she’ll have five or six days at home before we consider the Eclipse.”
