Racing in Canada at Woodbine will go to air on Thursday morning (22nd August) Australian time and all races can be viewed on Sky Racing and wagered upon at various corporate and TAB agencies.
Ric Chapman studies Canadian form and has compiled these comments and tips for ALL races on the card.
Good luck.
Race 1 8:45am 1700m Turf
ONE FOR NICKI, courtesy of receiving blinkers for the first time here, should drive to the lead. And she was 2nd in a similar race last start so is fit and ready. Looks hard to catch. Poor form this time up in much tougher races sees CALAIS COVE dropped right down in class here. Expect improvement as they often do over here when dropped in grade. MAMITA’S CHICA is another coming back in class and on the turf she can run on late. Will be out the back door but has finishing power.
TIPS: (3) ONE FOR NICKI, (1) Calais Cat, (2) Mamita’s Chica
Race 2 9:18am Synthetic 2YO Mdn 1100m
Very hard to go past the only experienced runner here in AVIE’S SAMURAI. On debut she chased home one of Woodbine’s best fillies when 2nd. Faces a bunch of untried, untested babies here and none of them have run smashing stand out works on the clock. Looks to control this race. TOY SHOW has worked well but when going for her starting ticket has flopped out of the gates behind the pack every time. Place. COMPENSATE is in the barn of the leading trainer…who also part-owns her. Workouts have been useful. Watch betting.
TIPS: (6) AVIE’S SAMURAI, (3) Compensate, (1) Toy Show
Race 3 9:50am 1400m Turf
Hard to work this one out. WINDJAMMER tends to like it longer and get up on the pace but there isn’t any recognisable speed here so he may have the wheels to lead. Is fit. Led and run down late in stronger race last start. DESERT POEM is probably the best horse but the lack of pace is a worry as she really likes to get back and motor home. Is in form and no surprise to see her overcome the tempo and win anyway. FALCON’S VIEW has no weight to carry and should be able to push up and be in a forward spot all the way. Form is handy enough.
TIPS: (4) WINDJAMMER, (3) Desert Poem, (6) Falcon’s View
Race 4 10:20am 1100m Synthetic
This is a very low grade of race which should suit HARPER PM. The rails draw should be used and he is expected to drive forward. Can place. SANDRETTI is one coming down in grade following a good finishing 4th. Lots of pace here so he can drop in behind the pace and when the gaps appear he should sprint hard late. SHELBOURNE is on the up and recently won a sprint mdn coming off a solid pace. This isn’t very hard and can nearly repeat the dose.
TIPS: (6) SHELBOURNE, (3) Sandretti, (1) Harper PM
Race 5 10:51am 1100m Synthetic
This race looks to have only 4 chances. I think we can right off One More Drift and Year Of The Dragon. Saying that, CARDIFF HILL will appreciate the draw. Only worry is racing after being scratched last start. Has been very strong at this level and should fall in just behind the pace and can come home. FAHRENHEIT may well be gifted this race. He has loads of pace and is the only leader here. Finding the fence without having to work hard for it makes him hard to catch. SPANISH MAJOR is useful this company which we’ve seen as he tends to run placings. Did that last start same grade.
TIPS: (2) FAHRENHEIT, (1) Cardiff hall, (3) Spanish Major
Race 6 11:20am 1000m Turf
This is a $75k dash – very, very similar format to those 955m challenges at Moonee Valley. Barriers play big roles. PERFECT FORESTER has drawn gate 2 and should have the pace to cross the inside guy and find the paint. He runs very boldly in these events and could very well lead all the way. HITTERS PARK came here with a bit of a boom a few runs back but hasn’t lived up to it. Has talent and has been thereabouts but now fully fit may be able to run up to earlier expectations. STORMY RUSH has the hell hole but they may snag him back to the rear. He can pick up and has placed in this series.
TIPS: (2) PERFECT FORESTER, (4) Hitters Park, (8) Stormy Rush
Race 7 11:50am 1200m Synthetic
Top rider Eurico Da Silva is retiring at the end of this meet in December so he will be out to land as many winners as possible. Gets on the fence here with SUBZERO PLUS who should lead. Her form isn’t great of late but when left alone in front she can run time. RED EXPLOSION has a big weight but is honest and has drawn to sit just behind the speed. Will move into it once they turn. MADISON WAY comes off the turf for this and her best form has been on this surface. Weakened last start on grass but form before that was placings all over the place this grade on synthetic.
TIPS: (3) RED EXPLOSION, (1) Subzero Plus, (4) Madison Way
Race 8 12:16pm 1400m Synthetic
MISS MATILDA might surprise some and drive to lead these from this marble. Has enough talent to keep going this grade. DULCIBELLE is very honest. Moves up to win this grade each start but just doesn’t quite get the job done. Have in your numbers for sure. LOST A SOCK is having 2nd start from long spell here after a good finishing 5th when resuming. Will be big odds but is worth considering as she can run on.
TIPS: (5) LOST VA SOCK, (6) Dulcibelle (2) Miss Matilda
