The Ebor Festival at York continues on Friday night with a seven race meeting, headlined by the Group l Nunthorpe Stakes (1005m), where gun sprinter Battaash takes on a real up and comer in Art Power.

Race 1. (22:45) Sky Bet Handicap 2384m

Back Me

If 11 Zabeel Champion (Bet Now: $2.50) can land on speed, I think he’s the pony to bet on. Was on him when he ran during Glorious Goodwood and just couldn’t find the front, had to take a sit off the pace with cover, and found the line strongly. Ryan Moore remains on and up in trip, he should find the front, close to it at least, and prove hard to beat.

7 Restorer (Bet Now: $7.00) is racing really well for Ian Williams. He ran over 2000m at Chester just under two weeks ago and found the line nicely I thought in defeat when second to Palavecino, beaten just under two lengths. The way he’s racing, the 2400m here should be fine for him and going of jockey bookings, he’s the pick of the stable runners.

Long Shot

If this becomes a truly run 2400m, I think 1 Byron Flyer (Bet Now: $19.00) comes right into play. He’s a dual horse, producing his craft on both the flat and over the jumps, so that’s somewhat of a concern here. I’m not sure he has the speed in the legs to go with some of these, but if they overdo it in front, he’ll be the strongest late.

Race 2. (23:15) Lonsdale Cup 3269m

Back Me

Bit surprised 3 Nayef Road (Bet Now: $3.75) isn’t favourite here. He’s had an excellent campaign to date, winning fresh at Newmarket before a couple of placings at Group l level, each time behind the best stayer in the world, Stradivarius, which is clearly A1 form for a race like this. Hard fit, in form, trip is fine…clearly the one to beat.

7 Enbihaar (Bet Now: $2.80) is the one with upside to come. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Newmarket prior to going to the Lillie Langtry where she won it for the second year straight, accounting for three rivals in what was more or less a barrier trial. Clearly a harder assignment here and usually saves her best for when tackling her own sex.

Long Shot

6 Withhold (Bet Now: $13.00) is the one that has the early toe and will give a sight from near the front. Bounced back to his best with a strong on speed win at Newmarket last time, his first real glimpse of positive form in a couple of a years. Much harder this time around but has the right racing pattern and I’m sure will give a sight.

Race 3. (23:45) Gimcrack Stakes 1207m

Back Me

4 Minzaal (Bet Now: $3.75) looks very much above average for the Owen Burrows team. Very good on debut behind Mohawk King before getting his maiden kill out of the way at Salisbury. He’s heading in the right direction this guy and I think he’s got more upside to come over Mohawk King, so think he can turn the tables.

5 Mohawk King (Bet Now: $6.00) does look the key threat. Debuted over 1200m and he was trucking from a fair way out before Dobbs pushed the button and he showed good change up speed to win impressively. Clearly a harder assignment here, but he has the runs on the board and is bred to handle a track with give in it.

Long Shot

3 Lauded (Bet Now: $15.00) needs to improve but if so, can be a knockout chance at odds. Impressive debut winner at Haydock before being far from disgraced in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. Went then to the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood and I thought he was a definite pass mark behind Supremacy. Not sure he wins, but a must for multiples.

Race 4. (00:15) Nunthorpe Stakes 1005m

Back Me

Could be foolish here, but at the odds, I’m happy to be with 6 Art Power (Bet Now: $3.75). He looks a really exciting prospect and does have sustained speed if required. Admittedly this is his hardest test in his career to date, but he has to try and beat the big boys sometime and he comes here to try and beat the biggest boy of the UK sprinting ranks, Battaash. Has the 1200m run under the belt, so he’s tough and any chink in the armour of Battaash, Art Power is the one to beat.

All things being equal, 1 Battaash (Bet Now: $1.40) should win given he is second to Nature Strip as the best sprinter in the world, he scorched the turf in winning this race last year and has come back this prep as good as ever. He should be winning, but he’s taking on a potentially top class sprinter in Art Power and $1.30 vs $3.60+, the latter appeals more from a betting perspective.

Long Shot

5 A’Ali (Bet Now: $9.00) looks third pick. He’s a three year old that is heading in the right direction, but is nowhere near the level of the top two. But in saying that, he did beat Liberty Beach at Sandown two back before winning again at the Curragh. I think down the track, he’ll reach this level. Not sure it’s here, but one for exotics.

Race 5. (00:45) Maiden 1408m

Back Me

Race in two between a couple of quality colts. Leaning the way, just, of 10 Tawleed (Bet Now: $4.50). He debuted at Goodwood over 1200m and I thought he was really good in defeat when second to the stablemate Alkumait in a very encouraging debut. Jim Crowley takes over and outside Naval Crown, this race has little to no depth.

6 Naval Crown (Bet Now: $2.50) has the runs on the board and the Charlie Appleby polish so clearly commands respect. He has finished runner up in both career outings, the latest coming in a Listed race at Ascot when second to Chindit. Beaten favourite, but far from disgraced. Finds a very winnable maiden here if he holds his form.

Long Shot

4 Fast Medicine (Bet Now: $13.00) might be the pick of the newcomers. Iffraaj colt that is on debut. Cost 200,000 Pounds as a yearling and is closely related to a couple of nice types despite the dam being a maiden. Early market support is interesting so keen to see how he goes and I’d continue to monitor betting moves.

Race 6. (01:20) Fillies Handicap 2062m

Back Me

I found this a very tricky race. I know she rises in weight, but I thought the win of 1 Chamade (Bet Now: $7.00) at Goodwood was dominant. Was $23 and got a cheap lead, but still had to take advantage of it and that she did, drawing clear to beat Waliyak comfortably. At the weights, Waliyak turns the tables, but I was impressed by that on speed performance.

6 Asiaaf (Bet Now: $3.00) looks the key threat. She comes back to 2000m after racing over 2400m at Goodwod where Crowley gave her a peach steer just off the speed and once he presented her clear air, it looked race over, but she couldn’t quite finish the race off and had to settle for second. Like her back in trip and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

3 First Kingdom (Bet Now: $7.50) is another with early speed. William Haggas trained filly that put together a couple of impressive wins on the bounce before going to France to contested a Listed race where she went too keen in front and nothing left for the straight when down the track. Better suited here and Marquand takes over.

Race 7. (01:50) Sky Bet Mile 1583m

Back Me

4 Finest Sound (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Exceed And Excel for the in form Crisford camp that is hard to beat for sure against this lot. Very good effort in the Britannia at Royal Ascot before going to Newmarket when third to Establish. Atzeni takes over and the likely give in the track will be perfect for this guy. The pony to bet on.

5 Eastern World (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Charlie Appleby trained colt that did hold a nomination for the Derby, which is how highly he was rated by the stable. Didn’t quite live up to those expectations, but has done a pretty good job this time in. Impressive winner two back at Newmarket before racing there again and running a narrow second to Establish. Looks the main threat.

Long Shot

9 Brunch (Bet Now: $11.00) looks to be heading in the right direction. He ran over 1400m here a few weeks ago when sitting back with cover before angling into clear air and the change up speed was impressive when asked, drawing clear late to win impressively. Back up to the mile I do like for him and is a knockout chance at odds.
