Ric Chapman, our form guru who covers Woodbine races for us, has gone through the 8-race midweek card and has provided both comment and tips. Good luck, punters.
Race 1 8:45am 1700m Turf
Champion trainer Mark Casse is always the one to follow in these type of races. He saddles the filly SHE’S PROUD here with Woodbine’s leading apprentice to ride. Perfectly drawn to get the one, one sit. Is down in grade on last start where she wilted final stages. POST TO POST is the consistent but luckless runner here. She has bobbed into a place several times this level and deserves a break through. COURT RETURN looks to be hard to beat. Comes back in class here after finishing hard for 4th last start. Watch market.

Race 2 9:20am 1000m Turf
JEZEBEL JONES needs to be watched. Is in a strong stable and has been dropped into this weak race. Perfectly drawn too and there are just too many things about her to dismiss. TAKE IT EASY is a conundrum. She is much better than these, well her best form has proven to be. But recent starts have been horrible. Is in a very easy race this time around. ADABEL has talent and can run big here despite being a long odds on fav this grade last start and failing. Has a rider on top who can get her fired up this time.

Race 3 9:47am 1300m Synthetic
A few of these are pretty smart. MONASTERY LANE has the great draw here. Is 3rd run into a career that might be promising. Can hit the line and is on the synthetic track here for the first time. She works on this surface and may be ready to run a blinder. IT’S VENGEANCE is fast early and has the draw to find the paint here. But it should be a battle early. Is fit and fast enough to withstand that early challenge and may just take some catching. SUPER PATRIOTIC is in a strong stable, and is a stablemate of an unraced one who sports the stable jock in ROYAL MANDATE. This filly, however, has the wheels to show up.

Race 4 10:16am 2300m Allowance Turf
RISING STAR is a useful plodder who just keeps whacking away. This looks too strong on paper, but a few aren’t in form so he can bob up. THEREGOESJOJO is his much more vaunted stablemate. And that’s because he is in winning form in weaker grade. Looks progressive enough to warrant a good look at. ENCIERRO is a bit hit and miss but did run his heart out when 4th in a much tougher race last start. Can just lob along in this field and finish too hard for them.

Race 5 10:50am 2YO Mdn 1100m Synthetic
The money is expected to come for the unraced SEA LILY. She has a top rider on top and her workouts show she has a lot of speed. Is from a winning family. CEFALO has had two goes and has placed once. Is down in class following a tiring effort last start. Experience will help here here. TOY SHOW will be huge odds but her debut run should be forgotten. Swallowed a huge clump of dirt coming to the home bend and just spat the bit out trotting down the home straight. Drawn to miss the kick back here and is down a long, long way in grade.

Race 6 11:20am 1100m 2YO Mdn Synthetic
The likely favourite is GELATO AMORE and she really looks the one to beat. Drops a furlong in class here from the stakes grades she has been racing well in of late. Could brain these. The one run under CEDAR VALLEY’s belt will do her the world of good. It was a fading 4th but in better company. Respect her here. VICTORIAN MOON is fast and has experience now too. Could be the sole leader and that gives her a hope.

Race 7 11:48am 1000m Turf
This a pretty even bunch of slow horses. I like a dual acceptor and STANDING RESERVE was in on the weekend in a better class of race, but has been saved for this instead. Is 2nd up and can improve on average run last start. Blinkers are removed here which is a gear change help. DANCING DEREK is an in and out type but is drawn to get a great sit off the speed and is capable when mind is on the job to win this comfortably. GIDEON’S SWORD might be ready to show up from this draw and in this low grade.
TIPS: (3) DANCING DEREK, (6) Standing Reserve, (5) Gideon’s Sword
Race 8 12:15pm 1800m Synthetic
PUGSLEY is a speed horse and one that’s in form too. From this marble he will ping and lead. These aren’t that strong behind him so if left alone in front he can control them. BEAR AT LAST chased him home when 3rd to him last start. There could well be more speed in the early stages here so his stalking style could be suited here. ARTHUR’S PASS is likely to run well. He is down in class here after being heavily tried in a stronger race last start and failing to run on.
