Nine-time Group 1 winner Anamoe is emerging as the likely first mating for champion mare Fangirl following the conclusion of her outstanding racing career.
The Ingham family-bred and raced mare was retired following her third placing in last Saturday’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick, with trainer Chris Waller believing the time was right for the eight-year-old to begin her career as a broodmare.
Fangirl retires as a four-time Group 1 winner, having won 12 of her 42 starts during a career which established her among Australia’s leading mares.
The daughter of Sebring claimed the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes as a three-year-old before adding the Winx Stakes, King Charles III Stakes and last year’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes to her record.
Attention now turns to Fangirl’s breeding career, with Darley stallion Anamoe firming as the leading option for her maiden mating.
Anamoe won nine races at Group 1 level during his own decorated career and his highly anticipated first crop are now two-year-olds.
Fangirl is out of the Ingham-raced stakes winner Little Surfer Girl, whose final foal, the Home Affairs filly Gerroa Princess, has been retained by the Ingham family and will also be trained by Waller.
Expectations are high for Anamoe’s first crop on the racetrack after he covered a strong book of mares during his opening season at Darley’s Kelvinside property.
His progeny were also well received throughout the 2026 yearling sales, leaving the former champion galloper among the leading contenders for this season’s first-season sire title.
