As he assembles his spring team, Anthony Cummings is counting Saturday’s Rosehill winner Your Song as one of his potential Group One contenders.
The $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) on September 15 will be the target for the son of all-conquering sire Fastnet Rock.
Your Song added more strings to his bow when he took out the Pluck @ Vinery Handicap, getting through the heavy going under topweight of 58kg and running out a strong 1400 metres.
The $2.50 favourite went to the line 1-1/2 lengths ahead of race leader Forever Crazy ($4) with She’s A Girl ($31) working home for third, another two lengths away.
“He is up there in the top half a dozen of my new season’s three-year-olds,” Cummings said.
“I thought that might have happened six months ago but he took a while longer.
“He will have a short break and come back racing in a month’s time.”
Cummings said Your Song would have 10 days on a water walker to retain his fitness.
“It keeps the routine going but it’s something different for the horses without having to send them to the paddock and get them fit again,” he said.
“It just breaks things up.
“He will likely come back and get ready for the Up And Coming Stakes next month.
“He has to take the step up to a higher grade but he is capable.”
Your Song is raced by Eduardo Cojuangco’s Gooree Stud and has now won two of his three starts.
