Young female jockey Samara Johnson has sadly died following a car crash in Junee on Sunday in which Canberra trainer Garry Kirkup was also critically injured.
Both Samara Johnson and Garry Kirkup were travelling together when the car left the road and hit a tree around 2:30PM in which Johnson sadly passed away.
Kirkup who was the driver of the car has been taken to Canberra Hospital and remains in a critical condition.
Canberra Racing Club chief executive Peter Stubbs said Kirkup had undergone an operation at the Canberra Hospital on Sunday night and was due to have further surgery on Monday.
“I understand Garry has severe abdominal injuries,” Stubbs told RSN927.
“Family and friends visited him last night. He is in a critical condition.
“Samara was an approved rider and successful picnic jockey and track rider at Canberra.”
