Beaten odds on VRC Oaks favourite Yankee Rose will require surgery next week to remove a bone chip from her leg.
Racing Victoria stewards advised the David Vandyke-trained three-year-old was sore in the near fore leg with an x-ray showing she had a bone chip in the knee.
Yankee Rose was sent out a $1.95 favourite in Thursday’s Group One race over 2500m and finished 14th behind $101 winner Lasqueti Spirit, beaten more than 20 lengths.
Trainer David Vandyke sent his star filly for xrays which showed the bone chip.
“Yankee Rose was found to be lame this morning with filling in her left knee,” Vandyke said.
“X rays have revealed a chip. She will be operated on next Thursday.
“We hope to have her back for the winter.”
