Trainer David Pfeiffer will surely agree that the Gold Coast has treated him well over the years and the stable put another notch on the belt when Yamazaki, who has won at the Gold Coast before, stormed home to claim an impressive 2.25 length victory in the Listed Silk Stocking over 1400m at the Gold Coast.
The Real Saga mare, who was racing fresh after a two-month break from action, took no prisoners over the concluding stages.
Not that she had any favours in the run.
Jumping from an outside barrier, Yamazaki was still caught very wide, covering plenty of extra ground, as the field came off the home turn, but she was about to show just how tough she was.
While she had every reason to start feeling the pinch in the early part of the straight, she instead shrugged off the supposed disadvantage of the path she had been followed in the race and quickened best of all to hit the front just inside the 200m mark.
From there it was race over as Mark Zahra not only still had plenty of horse underneath him, but he also had a horse with a desire to win and the duo finished strongly without ever being in danger of defeat over the closing stages.
