Champion mare Winx could line-up in this years $13 Everest as an alternative to her chasing a fourth Cox Plate.
Owners of the mare have invested in a slot with Chris Waller which would enable Winx the ability to take her spot in The Everest Field if they feel it is a better option for World’s Best Horse.
Trainer Chris Waller has been firm in saying that no plans have yet been set out for Winx during the Spring with connections likely to opt for a fourth Cox Plate which would be determined by her lead up runs although The Everest is a very real chance depending where she is in her campaign.
After her dominate win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes Waller put to bed any retirement rumours; “Let us enjoy her for who she is and what she did for the next week or so and then in the spring take one run at a time. We haven’t said anything about where she’s heading or what she’s doing. She’ll have her first-up run and we’ll take one run at a time,” Waller said. “If she’s racing well and the Cox Plate’s in front of her, she’ll run.”
The Everest races two weeks prior to the 2018 Cox Plate over 1200m, so it will be a decision between The Everest or the Cox Plate.
