Craig Williams has had his advantage in the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership cut to one by Dwayne Dunn after the metropolitan meeting at Warrnambool.
Williams rode a winning treble at Flemington on Saturday to end the day two wins clear of both Damien Oliver, who rode a Flemington double, and Dunn.
Dunn, who relinquished the lead on Saturday, pegged one back on on Sunday with victory aboard Strong Hand in a 1400m benchmark race for three-year-olds while Williams was winless at Warrnambool.
Strong Hand got home in a driving finish over Oliver’s mount Lord Barrington.
The Warrnambool meeting carried metropolitan status because it was a transferred meeting from Sandown featuring the Grand National Hurdle and Crisp Steeplechase.
There are five metropolitan meetings left in the season.
Williams sits on 53 wins with Dunn on 52 and Oliver on 51.
Meanwhile, leading trainer Darren Weir prepared six winners on Sunday in Victoria with a double at Warrnambool and four at Warracknabeal including the Cup with Honourable Aussie.
Apprentice Jackie Beriman took riding honours at Warrnambool with a winning treble.
