What the jockeys said after the running of the Group One Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
BRENTON AVDULLA (Secret Admirer) 1st: “What can I say, she’s everything to me this little thing since I’ve been in Sydney. She’s given me my two biggest thrills in racing and that was one of them today. I was wide but I had cover and I knew before the corner that I was going to take a lot of beating. She got there halfway down the straight and went on with it and only real top class horses do what she does.”
CRAIG WILLIAMS (Pinker Pinker) 2nd: “She was great. She took a forward position, I would have said where the track was a little more affected than anywhere else. She actually dipped a few times so she wasn’t that comfortable but she picked up really well. The winner was off and gone but my horse was good and solid today.”
CHRIS MUNCE (Red Tracer) 3rd: “She went unbelievable.”
NATHAN BERRY (Willy Jimmy) 4th: “Huge run, he ran out of his skin today. I think he’s a lot better on firmer footing. He got unbalanced and lost his footing around both turns out of the straight and the home turn. I think he’s looking forward to getting to 1800 or 2000 metres and the run speaks for itself. He went outstanding.”
JAY FORD (Pinnacles) 5th: “He ran well, his usual honest race and kept kicking all the way to the line.”
CHRISTIAN REITH (Red Colossus) 6th: “He ran awesome. Looking for 2000 metres.”
COREY BROWN (Foreteller) 7th: “Had a good run. Even though we had a light weight he’s probably not up to that class of horse without it being wetter.”
CHRIS O’BRIEN (Sincero) 8th: “He was never really comfortable in the going. He never got the chance to get into it so he could travel. He was basically off the bit most of the way but kept finding the line good under the circumstances. We’re pressing on to Melbourne.”
MICHAEL RODD (Sacred Choice) 9th: “She passes. We’ll push on.”
HUGH BOWMAN (Triple Elegance) 10th: “I just got skittled at the 600 metre mark and it put me out of business. He did a good job to rally.”
JO MOREIRA (Renewed Vitality) 11th: “He had every chance. To be very honest I was expecting more from him and he just couldn’t give it to me in the straight.”
JIM CASSIDY (More Strawberries) 12th: “Travelled nice to the corner but that was it. Probably drop back a grade.”
KERRIN McEVOY (Raspberries) 13th: “Jusk OK. Drier ground probably suits her better.”
KATHY O’HARA (Dealer Principal) 14th: “Disappointing, didn’t find the line. He had a good run through but just doesn’t have the zest for racing at the moment.”
TOMMY BERRY (King Lionheart) 15th: “Disappointing. Probably all happened a bit quick for him.”
BLAKE SPRIGGS (Light Brigade) 16th: “He’s probably still learning what it’s all about.”
ROD QUINN (Thankgodyou’rehere) 17th: “I really don’t know. Something went wrong with him and I really don’t know what it was but it put a halt to him.”
