Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have won the rich $100,000 Snake Gully Cup at Gundagai with a big chunky 6YO named REGAL STAGE.
But the story is equally about the girls. They are coming.
Lady hoops are now ready to explode all through the winner’s lists all over the country as more and more female jocks show form in bigger races.
Both Winona Costin and Kayla Nisbet proved that at Gundagai this afternoon in the $100,000 Snake Gully Cup.
Costin rode the winner REGAL STAGE (Redoute’s Choice-Estelle Collection), who by the way, is the little brother of the great LANKAN RUPEE, to a superb victory from the fast-finishing IRISH SONGS and the luckless SAUSEDGE.
Regal Stage cost $1.8million as a yearling as you might expect being the baby bro of a champion sprinter, and has now won just over $210,000 from his 18 starts.
Winona jumped him straight to the front where she controlled the pace and just went bang as they turned, pinching a good margin and hanging tough as the other pair rattled home late.
And the first two home, signalled the start of the male dominance end.
And last week we saw nine races at Port Lincoln – seven of them won by lady hoops.
Their tidal wave of young riders coming through assures all that the change will occur soonish.
