Last yearโs The Everest winner CLASSIQUE LEGEND (Not A Single Doubt – Pinocchio) trialled at Randwick this morning and left no doubt that he is back to defend his crown.
He devastated a strong trial field, ran time, especially the last 600m, and sent shivers up the spines of those connected with Eduardo, Nature Strip and Anamoe.
Sometimes in life, often in fact, less is more. I could wax lyrical about how well he travelled for rider Kerrin McEvoy, how Kerrin adroitly found a rails run, how explosive the big grey was when clear and how dominant he was, but it might be best just to let race caller Mitch Manners sum it up.
As they roared toward the line, Manners said: โthe big grey flash says, what about me? Donโt forget me in The Everest, and he makes a statement here.
โWow!โ
Perfectly put.
He easily defeated SIGNORE FOX (Exceed and Excel – Sharp Susan) who did trial very impressively himself and the fast finishing MINHAAJ (Exceed and Excel – Telaawa) who must win when she resumes if pitted against her peers.
Later in the day, a maiden named ARMOUR FORCE (Fastnet Rock – Silverbeat) won his trial with jockey Tommy Berry swimming off him. He was cantering, ran time and looks a certainty when The Freedmans who train him, let him race.
