One of Western Australia’s top prospects will be denied the chance to showcase his talent at the Spring Carnival in Melbourne due to hoof concerns.
2018 Perth Cup winner Material Man was set to kick off his Spring campaign in the Group 1 weight-for-age Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 15.
Trainer Justin Warwick confirmed the news on his stables Facebook page that the 7-year-old would not travel to Victoria.
“Unfortunately we have had to cancel our Melbourne trip for Material Man.”
“After a few hoof issues, he is needing a month or so break, disappointing but our mans well being must come first.”
Material Man was set to target the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate with connections paying the $3,300 late-entry fee to nominate for the 2018 Cox Plate.
Material Man, who was recently crowned joint winner of Western Australia’s horse of the year, will return in time for the 2018 Ascot Carnival.
