The voice we have become familiar with listening to Hong Kong races, is coming to Australia.
Brett Davis, who for many years now has called with perfection, ALL of the big races in Hong Kong, following the departure of Darren Flindell, will call Adelaide home henceforth.
He will become the voice of South Australian racing.
“It’s a big first couple of days,’’ said Davis, back in SA after 18 years abroad.
“It was a hectic finish to everything in Hong Kong. I had the massive Champion’s Mile meeting and then after that, it was basically four days to get everything in order to come back home to Adelaide.”
Davis starts this weekend at Gawler calling that card on Saturday then heads out to Port Lincoln the next day.
As mentioned, Flindell, now the voice of city racing in NSW, preceded Davis.
Before them was former country Victoria caller, Robert Geller who is now the racetrack caller at Woodbine in Canada.
“Having called over 50 international Group 1 races was a massive thrill,’’ Davis added.
“I had the privilege of calling superstars like Beauty Generation, Silent Witness and Sacred kingdom while there.”
Davis was in Singapore prior to accepting the role in Hong King once Flindell vacated it. That was 2015.
“There are obviously some similarities between Hong Kong and Adelaide, you have a similar horse pools and a lot of similar horses racing against each other so I’ve been watching Adelaide closely since I knew I was coming home.
“It’s going to be great to get things rolling,’’ he said in when interviewed today in Adelaide’s The Advertiser.
