What the jockeys said after the running of the Group One $1.5 million Victoria Derby at Flemington on Saturday.

DAMIEN OLIVER (Fiveandahalfstar) 1st – “Once he strolled up into the gap inside Super Cool, he relaxed really well. We got a good breather from the mile to the half-mile. He’s obviously very fit, he’s had a very busy schedule but he’s stood up to it very well.”

MICHAEL RODD (Super Cool) 2nd – “He ran enormous. He just ran into a better stayer on the day. My bloke’s probably going to be better suited to a mile or 2000 metres in the future. He tried very hard.”

MICHAEL WALKER (Rawnaq) 3rd – “He should’ve won … he should’ve won. I wouldn’t say it here but the things I want to do to Nash Rawiller right now …”

GLEN BOSS (Hvasstan) 4th – “He was terrific. He probably didn’t have the maturity or the mental attitude to run the trip.”

NICHOLAS HALL (Electric Fusion) 5th – “He ran OK … he just didn’t run a strong 2500 (metres).”

BEN MELHAM (Escado) 6th – “He had a nice run throughout. I was pretty happy with the run.”

JAMES MCDONALD (It’s A Dundeel) 7th – “He tried his guts out. He’s a very tired horse. I pulled him up and he just stopped and paused … you know he’s a tired three-year-old after that. Bring him back in the autumn, he’s going to be a lovely colt.”

COREY BROWN (Honorius) 8th – “He was OK. He didn’t quite see the trip out the way we thought he would and he’s ready for the paddock.”

STEVEN ARNOLD (Subiaso) 9th – “He got to the corner and travelled up nice but just flattened out.”

NASH RAWILLER (Our Desert Warrior) 10th – “He just feels a preparation away at this stage. I don’t feel he quite stays the trip but he may in the autumn.”

CRAIG WILLIAMS (Malabar Man) 11th – “He just didn’t get the 2500 (metres).”

BILLY EGAN (Nisos) 12th – “He’s due for a good spell but he tried his heart out.”

HUGH BOWMAN (Costa Nova) 13th – “My guy didn’t stay.”

VLAD DURIC (Bullion Express) 14th – “He was just outclassed at this level.”

DEAN YENDALL (Batistuta) 15th – “He’s still new. He’s going to make a better horse for (trainer) Austy (Coffey) next time in and hopefully stays sound.”

MATTHEW NEILSON (Jimando) 16th – “He pulled hard early and probably didn’t stay.”
