Dr Tom Brennan will be cross examined on the third day of the hearing into cobalt charges against Melbourne trainers Mark Kavanagh and Danny O’Brien.
The vet has been charged along with O’Brien and Kavanagh over elevated cobalt levels in four O’Brien-trained horses and one from the Kavanagh stable.
A partner in the Flemington Equine Clinic, Brennan on Tuesday admitted to making a mistake in that as the primary care vet for Kavanagh and O’Brien he had let them down.
He said he had added “vitamin complex” to an IV drip on the assurance from another clinic vet it contained no prohibited substances.
Earlier on day two of the hearing before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board, Damian Sheales, representing Kavanagh and O’Brien, told the hearing that not only had the trainers been deceived by Brennan, but so too had stewards.
