The return to winning form by the talented Velrosso at Rosehill on Saturday brought up a four-timer for trainer Chris Waller and helped offset the loss 40 minutes earlier by the heavily supported Said Com.
Said Com finished third as the $1.45 favourite in the Spring Preview Handicap (1400m), two lengths from Kontiki Park.

Waller said it was a little disappointing but he couldn’t hide his satisfaction with Velrosso’s come-from-last performance in the Mounties Handicap (1100m) to go with earlier wins by Stout Hearted, Nocturnelle and Mon Soleil.
Ridden by premier New Zealand apprentice Jason Collett who has rejoined Waller after a successful stint last year, favourite Velrosso ($4.20) stormed home to beat Net Worth ($17) by a half neck.
“That was Jason’s first winner for me since he’s been back and it was a cool ride,” Waller said.
“He never panicked.
“There’s a difference in being back last and having no chance and being back last and giving yourself a chance.
“It was a big step up for the horse today.
“He’s a gelding now and I think he’s in for a big preparation.”
Collett said he was pleased to get on the board in Sydney again.
“It’s good to get the monkey off my back,” he said.
“It was the win of a good horse.”
Waller admitted he was disappointed by Said Com’s performance but said he had learned from it.
“I think we learned he can’t be ridden on the speed,” he said.
“And in fairness to the horse I have always said I think he is a preparation away.
“He’s a bit soft and he still needs to mature.”
