Former Golden Rose favourite Vancouver will miss the race with his owners electing to target next month’s Caulfield Guineas.
James Bester, representing Coolmore Stud where the colt will stand next year, says Vancouver is fit and well but the consensus is he should miss the $1 million Golden Rose on Saturday week.
Bester said trainer Gai Waterhouse had been confident Vancouver would acquit himself well in the Golden Rose.
“The owners would rather see him at his peak and the decision has been made to bypass the Golden Rose,” Bester told Sky Sports Radio.
“He will be set now for the Caulfield Guineas.”
The Golden Slipper winner lost his unbeaten record in the San Domenico Stakes in August and eased in Golden Rose markets after a less than impressive barrier trial earlier this week.
