Ortensia, a Group One winner on three continents, has died at the age of 10.
The mare was euthanised after developing a tumour on a lung.
Originally trained in Melbourne by Tony Noonan, Ortensia was prepared by Paul Messara to win the 2011 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth and the Al Quoz Sprint in March the following year, the same path taken by Buffering this season.
Ortensia travelled to England after Dubai, and won a Group Two race at Goodwood before taking out the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
She ended her career as the winner of 13 races from 38 starts and more than $2.4 million.
Ortensia leaves a yearling by Choisir and a weanling by Dream Ahead.
