Len Treloar goes to the Sunshine Coast meeting with high hopes of a home track feature treble to put the icing on the cake of his best training season since his move to Queensland.

After beginning his career in Adelaide, Treloar moved to Melbourne then spent seven successful years in Singapore before moving to the Sunshine Coast to be closer to his family three years ago.

He has gradually built up his team and has trained 40 winners on all tracks this season and is currently seventh on the Brisbane metropolitan premiership with 19 winners.

Treloar has a strong hand on Saturday with Catalonia (Caloundra Cup), Escoffier and Auguste (Glasshouse Handicap), and Coruba Queen (Sunshine Coast Guineas).

He said the Caloundra Cup (2400m) had been Catalonia’s main aim for the winter from the day the mare came back into work.

The Caloundra Cup will be Catalonia’s fifth run back from a spell and comes after her sixth to Brave Ali in the Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Treloar was pleased with Catalonia’s last start when she finished less than two lengths behind the winner.

“I wasn’t expecting the track to suit her and she got pushed very deep at the 600 metres but still ran on well,” said Treloar who is expecting the mare to thrive over Saturday’s longer trip.

He said Escoffier and Auguste would both be very competitive in the Glasshouse (1400m).

“I don’t think Escoffier is at his best when he gets up in the weights. He had 57 kilograms when third last start at Eagle Farm when the way the race was run didn’t suit him,” he said.

“He has drawn the outside alley on Saturday but that isn’t a real disadvantage at the Sunshine Coast. I think the more important point is that he is down to 54kg.”

Treloar said Auguste had also earned his chance in a Listed race.

“He has really turned the corner this preparation,” he said.

“We have been doing different things with his diet and it seems to be working.”

Coruba Queen will be double figure odds in the Guineas but Treloar warned punters not to ignore her.

“She has won her past three starts and is racing well. This race should suit and she should be thereabouts,” he said.
