Those who like to get on a week or so early when making Gr 1 bets, need to know that the Gr 2 Shannon winner at Rosehill…..is NOT going to the Gr 1 Epsom next week.
And after that horse, I AM SUPERMAN (Footstepsinthesand-Fastnet Lady) looked awesome winning the Shannon, immediately smart punters started making his Epsom price tumble in.
But co-trainer Paul Snowden warned them not to do that. “We think it might be a bit too strong so we will send him to Melbourne for the Gr 1 Toorak over a mile instead.
“And by then, he will be super ready,” assured Snowden who mentioned he was disappointed the horse didn’t get to run in a Gr 1 last week when scratched as a reserve.
I Am Superman was left in front a long way from home once the leader, Quackerjack dropped off in the 1500m Shannon, but he he lifted and fought off his rivals to win quite comfortably in the end.
He beat the Kiwi import RIODINO (Proisir-Giardini) who was 2nd up and was a bit still being caught in behind a slow one then getting bumped as he angle into the clear, and the big boy LOOKS LIKE ELVIS (All American-Savalook) who was making good ground late.
This is I Am Superman’s 5th win from 16 starts and he has won $295,539 in stakes money.
He came to Australia last year for the Golden Eagle after campaigning well in England and Ireland, but was smashed.
His trainer Mike O’Callaghan left him here with the Snowdens and he has now won $172,000 from two wins under their care.
