Jockey Glen Boss said there is a very good horse in there after dismounting from THINK IT OVER (So You Think-Personal Service) who he piloted to a comfortable win the $500,000 Gr 3 Craven Plate at Randwick over 2000m.
“I kept telling Kerry (the trainer) to stick with him in these races even though he was getting beaten because we just don’t know how good he is.
“Once these type of horses get fit they can do anything and he was fit today. In the autumn we are going to see an even better horse.
“I seriously have a lot of time for him.”
Big, positive words and after travelling in 2nd spot behind Quintessa who set a solid speed, the improving Kembla-trained galloper pounced to the lead over the rise and was just too strong late beating Gr 1 winner NETTOYA and the well-tried VANNA GIRL.
The short-priced favourite, Star Of The Seas, after travelling in a perfect spot, just didn’t see out the trip and weakened to run 9th of 10.
But the win, in a good 2.02, while anticipated by Boss, has left Think It Over’s trainer Kerry Parker, with a potential problem.
In a month’s time, The Gong, a million dollar race at his home track is on and Parker wants to win it.
“It’s over a mile which may be too short for him, but it is always in my mind. I want to win it and I’ll give this bloke another Satur5day run then have a serious look at freshening him up for the gong.
“It’s pretty tempting.”
The Gong is on Saturday 21 November.
Today’s win takes his stakes earnings to $534,300.
