The Autumn Sun has hit the lead in the public vote for berths in the $5 million All Star Mile

The Autumn Sun has hit the lead in the public vote for berths in the $5 million All Star Mile.

Five days remain until voting closes for the inaugural running of the rich race at Flemington on March 16 with 10 of the places in the 14-horse field decided by the public.

Caulfield Guineas winner The Autumn Sun had moved to the top of the leaderboard on Tuesday with almost 8200 votes, but he is not guaranteed to run in the 1600m-race.

TheChris Waller-trained colt is scheduled to run in the Group One Randwick Guineas a week before the Flemington feature.

Second in the voting is Queenslander Urban Ruler on 8001 while Flemington specialist Grunt has attracted more than 5100 votes to be in third place ahead of Moss ‘N’ Dale who is approaching 4000.

Man Of His Word (3872), Foundry (3836), Mr Money Bags (3756), Material (3671), Amphitrite (3639) and Extra Brut (3599) round out the current top 10 spots.

Alizee, unbeaten in two starts this campaign, sits 11 spot, only a handful of votes behind Extra Brut.

Other notable horses outside the top 10 are Group One winner Land Of Plenty (12th), Mystic Journey (15th), Happy Clapper (16th) and Tom Melbourne (18th).

Saturday’s Group One C F Orr winner Manuel is in 46th spot.

Votes can be lodged until noon on February 18, although there is a voting blackout period from noon on Friday with no update to the leaderboard

The top 10 vote gatherers will be revealed on February 21 with the four wildcard entries, selected by Racing Victoria, announced on March 4.
