David Brideoake is confident Thames Court has taken the necessary steps to be competitive in a stakes race at Flemington.
A first-up second in the Cockram Stakes at Caulfield, Thames Court runs in the Group Two Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.
“I think she’s done very well since her first-up run,” Brideoake said.
“I’m totally satisfied with the horse. We’ve had a trouble-free run into the race.”
Thames Court emerged as a promising three-year-old during the autumn graduating to success in the Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley before a failed trip to Adelaide.
Brideoake said Thames Court jarred up on a hard Morphettville track, but after a good spell had bounced back.
“We had the vet look at her and thankfully there was nothing wrong,” he said.
“We spelled her and I just believe the ground was too quick for her.”
With anywhere between five and 15mm of rain predicted on Friday, Brideoake said Thames Court was adept in any going.
“A bit of rain may play into her hands but there’s nothing like having the same jockey (Ryan Maloney) and horse combination and stepping up to 1400 (metres) will be no problem for her,” Brideoake said.
“Fingers crossed as we’re all looking forward to getting there.”
Brideoake has plans to tackle the mares series of races at Flemington and Caulfield leading up to the Group One Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on October 29.
“If she can continue on the same path of form the Myer is the obvious place to go,” he said.
