Mick Kent believes the handicap conditions of the The Galaxy is the best option for Supido

Mick Kent believes the handicap conditions of the The Galaxy in Sydney is the best option for talented sprinter Supido who will make his second interstate trip in as many starts.

Supido finished third in the Group Two Challenge Stakes (1000m) on heavy going at Randwick last start before Kent brought him home to Victoria.

Five-year-old Supido is scheduled to travel back to Sydney on Wednesday night for Saturday’s Group One Galaxy (1100m).

Kent said The Galaxy and the upcoming weight-for-age William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday week were the options for Supido.

“He’s come through that last run OK,” Kent said.

“I don’t like travelling them twice but it was either this or the William Reid and I just think if you look at the handicaps he meets all those a little bit better at the weights in the Galaxy.

“He drops five kilos on his last run.”

Supido, who ran third in last year’s Goodwood in Adelaide, finished ninth of nine in the weight-for-age Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up before the Challenge Stakes.

He meets Challenge winner English four kilos better and runner-up Redzel one kilo better this time.

Music Magnate, English and three-year-old Russian Revolution are joint favourites with Luxbet.com at $6 with the track rated a heavy (9) on Wednesday.

Supido is at $13 with Craig Williams to ride him for the first time in 13 months. Williams is unbeaten on Supido from three rides.

The Kent-trained Abbey Marie came out of the Group One Coolmore Classic on Saturday with a hamstring injury after finishing among the tailenders.

“She pulled a hammy. She’s a bit sore at the moment. There’s a haematoma on her hindquarter,” Kent said.

“So she’s obviously got a little tear.”

Kent is hoping to get it right in time for the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) next month.

“She didn’t run her race but I think the form stacks up for her to be competitive in the Randwick mile for fillies and mares in a month,” Kent said.

“So hopefully I can get this right.

“She was really going well. I was really pleased how she had trained from her first run to her second run.”
