Saved from an early retirement to the broodmare barn, Sultry Feeling has lived up to her part of the bargain with a valuable Group Three win.
Trainer James Cummings had to use his powers of persuasion to keep Sultry Feeling racing into her four-year-old year and was rewarded with her victory in Saturday’s Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
“Winning a race like this is worth its weight in gold for her,” Cummings said.
“There was a stallion lined up for her but we all had a meeting and decided to keep her going.
“I always thought she had a Group Three win in her and the owners are very happy to get one.
“She has just developed so well and hopefully there’s more for her over the carnival.”
Kerrin McEvoy had Sultry Feeling ($7) tracking the leader Vergara ($4.20) for most of the race and stepped her up a gear at the business end of the race.
Sultry Feeling kept going strongly to the line to hold off the favourite Peeping ($3.70) by three-quarters of a length with another 1-3/4 lengths to Savoureux ($12) with Vergara fourth.
