Dual Group One winner Streama may only be seen once in Sydney this spring as trainer Guy Walter gears her program around the Myer Classic in Melbourne.

Streama announced herself as a filly of quality with her Flight Stakes victory last year but was overshadowed by the subsequent achievements of Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen.

After being beaten by Atlantic Jewel in the Thousand Guineas, Mosheen went on to record a runaway win in the Victorian Oaks while Streama was in the spelling paddock.

Mosheen came back to win the Australian Guineas, Randwick Guineas and Vinery Stud Stakes while Atlantic Jewel returned from injury to cap her two-start campaign with victory in the All Aged Stakes and maintain her unbeaten record.

Atlantic Jewel is the early favourite for the Cox Plate (2040m) with Mosheen well in the market but Streama will not be extended beyond the 1600m of the Myer Classic even though she won the Australian Oaks (2400m).

“She is up to three-quarter pace work,” Walter said.

“She won’t run before September and she may only have one race in Sydney before she goes to Melbourne.

“The Myer Classic is her aim and she won’t run beyond 1600 metres.”

The filly is in pre-training at Walter’s Goulburn stable and will come back to Warwick Farm next month.

By Golden Slipper winner Stratum, Streama was bred by the Coghlan family from their mare Pensiamo and retained by them to race.

Streama’s stablemate Doctor Doom, winner of the Spring Champion Stakes, will miss the spring due to injury.
