Guy Walter can draw many comparisons between stablemate mares Appearance and Streama – with one notable exception.

Unlike Appearance, the winner of last week’s Expressway Stakes, Streama has yet to win first-up from a spell.

But she can put that right in Saturday’s Group Two NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Rosehill in which she will carry top weight of 59kg.

“Streama has had a similar preparation to Appearance and is fit enough to run a bold race,” Walter said.

“I am mindful that she has never won first-up and tends to do better after one run.

“But she has been working really well and she seldom lets me down.

“It looks like there will be some speed in the race which will suit.”

Although she has yet to win fresh, Streama’s record is still exceptional with five minor placings from five attempts.

The Group Two Expressway Stakes was Appearance’s first win at weight-for-age in open company while Streama boasts the George Main Stakes among her three Group One victories.

The two mares will inevitably meet at some time during the carnival but Walter is hoping to keep them apart as long as he can.

“At some point they will have to race against each other and Toydini as well,” he said.

“That might be in the Doncaster.

“Appearance is likely to go to the Coolmore Classic Streama will get too much weight so she will go to the George Ryder at weight-for-age which is also on the program for Toydini.”

Blake Shinn, who rides Streama on Saturday, was aboard the mare in the George Main then opted for Toydini in the Epsom Handicap with the two stablemates second and third respectively behind Boban.

Shinn was also on Appearance in the Expressway but the injured Kerrin McEvoy has first refusal on the Darley mare if he is not otherwise engaged for Sheikh Mohammed’s operation.

“At some stage Blake may have to make a decision but he will get to ride all three before that happens,” Walter said.

“There’s along carnival ahead so we’ll see what happens.”

The Breeders’ Classic market is headed clearly by the unbeaten White Sage ($2.70) who is stepping up to Group company for the first time.

The next group is crowed with Catkins ($4.20), Streama ($4.60) and Steps In Time ($5).

The winner of the race for the two years, Steps In Time is having her first start for new trainer Joe Pride.
