Champion jockey Jimmy Cassidy has been denied a 100th Group One win at Randwick on Saturday.
Cassidy was left on 99 Group One victories when his George Main Stakes mount Hawkspur finished fourth in the weight-for-age race.
The veteran rider, who won his first Group One race in 1981, is trying to join George Moore and Roy Higgins as the only Australasian jockeys to achieve the century milestone.
While Hawkspur was running on from the back of the field, Streama ($8.50) raced on the speed and gain control late in the race.
The Guy Walter-trained five-year-old led home a mares’ quinella with Royal Descent ($5) finishing second.
New Zealand star Veyron ($20) held on for third after providing the tempo.
“I knew when I asked her to go that she would respond,” winning jockey Blake Shinn said.
Streama’s victory adds to Walter’s hand in the $500,000 Epsom Handicap at Randwick on October 5.
Walter also prepares Toydini, promoted to favourite for the race after his Cameron Handicap win at Newcastle on Wednesday.
