The Victorian Racing Club (VRC) has announced plans to introduce more twilight race meetings at Flemington during Victoria’s summer months.
The four new twilight meetings will include two Saturday race meetings along with a Sunday meeting in February and a mid-week meeting in March.
“The VRC will introduce twilight racing on Saturday 14 December, Saturday 18 January, Sunday 9 February and Wednesday 4 March,” a VRC statement read.
Last month the VRC announced that Kennedy Oaks day meeting would also be a twilight meeting with the day’s feature, the Kennedy Oaks, being run at 5.50pm.
VRC Chairman Amanda Elliott said the twilight meeting on February 9 would also be Flemington’s first straight-course only race meeting.
“Sunday 9 February will mark Flemington’s first straight-course race meeting, with all races held on the famous Flemington straight. The VRC is currently planning some exciting new concepts for this meeting which will be announced once finalised.” Mrs Elliott said.
The VRC confirmed that they would also consider plans to install lights at Flemington which would allow day/night meetings in future.
“We have introduced twilight dates across summer and autumn, and are now considering the possibility of lights down the Flemington straight for a day/night program involving our incredible new facilities, and giving our patrons a new experience,”
The VRC also outlined plans to elevate existing black-type races with the ambition of having a feature race at every raceday.
