Jockey Brad Stewart has continued to reap the benefits of his hard work ethic bringing up his 11th winner in a week on promising Mishani Sleuth at Doomben.
Stewart’s run started with a double at Doomben on July 12, and was followed a treble at Rockhampton the next day, a double at Ipswich on Friday, a winner at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, a winner at Ballina on Tuesday and two winners at Doomben on Wednesday.
Stewart has always been rated one of the best jockeys in Queensland but sometimes has had trouble with discipline.
“I have been riding track work for several trainers and keeping my weight in check,” Stewart said.
Stewart won on Johnny Whitesox on Wednesday before his victory on the Chris Anderson-trained Mishani Sleuth.
“Brad has been riding track work for me and when he is on song there is no better rider in Australia,” Anderson said.
Mishani Sleuth, who beat some top quality open company horses in a recent Doomben trial, will have his next start in a QTIS 3YO race on Saturday week.
“It will then be into open company on Saturdays for him. He is pretty promising,” Anderson said.
Patience paid off for fellow trainer Steve O’Dea when Yes Tonight landed some big bets at her seconf start in two years.
Yes Tonight, who was backed from $11 to $2.70, was too strong for Lakoudis in the Carlton Mid Maiden (1200m).
The mare had her first start in July 2015 but did not run again until June 28 this year when she was well beaten in a maiden at Doomben.
O’Dea said Yes Tonight had been injury-prone throughout her career and every time she got ready to race something went wrong.
“There has been everything from hairline fractures to soreness. But we gave her plenty of time. She is raced by a Jamie Walter’s Proven Syndicate group and they have finally been rewarded for their patience,” O’Dea said.
The win was also timely for O’Dea and Proven Thoroughbreds as they have an open day at Eagle Farm on Sunday to syndicate their yearlings from the recent sales.
