Stay With Me has emulated her mother in winning the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.
A daughter of the 2006 winner Miss Finland, Stay With Me overcame an indifferent start to beat Jameka ($8.50) by 1-3/4 lengths.
Badawiya ($5.50) was 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Stay With Me appeared to have blown her chances when reared as the gates were released but jockey Dwayne Dunn saved the day with a composed ride.
“She just jumped straight in the air at the start, I had go back inside and ride for luck,” Dunn said.
Stay With Me burst onto the scene at the 200m and the result was never in doubt from there.
“Her mother was a superstar and she’s very, very good (herself),” Dunn said.
The win gave Hayes and Tom Dabernig their second Group One win for the meeting with Criterion taking out the Caulfield Stakes.
