New Tipperary will tackle the Winter Stakes at the right time of his preparation

Given New Tipperary’s pattern for producing a peak performance at his second run from a spell, it was a no-brainer for Joe Pride to pick the most winnable race for his second-up target.

That race comes around on Saturday in the form of the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill and not only will New Tipperary tackle it at the right time of his preparation, Pride reckons the horse has never been in better shape.

In the past, New Tipperary has traditionally been a moderate fresh performer so his effort to notch a stakes placing first-up last month has filled Pride with confidence.

“On what we’ve seen in the past from horses, if they’re going well they’ll run well, even when they’ve got things against them and that’s what we saw there,” Pride said.

“We deliberately hit the race we want to win with him second-up and I’m pretty happy with the way that race shapes up on Saturday.

“Given how much he normally improves into his second-up run, if he does that again he’ll be very hard to beat.”

New Tipperary won Newcastle’s Group Three Cameron Handicap second-up last preparation, albeit on a good surface, and while Rosehill was still in the heavy zone on Friday, the horse did cope with similar conditions in the Civic Stakes.

He is arguably the strongest chance of Pride’s four Rosehill runners, but it is Cyber Intervention generating the most excitement for the stable.

A progressive son of So You Think, Cyber Intervention will join barn mate Arraignment in the TAB Handicap (1500m) and while Pride is looking forward to seeing what the four-year-old can produce on Saturday, he is even more upbeat about his future.

“He’s won three races and you watch any one of those and you think, ‘this is a horse really going somewhere’,” Pride said.

“Second-up, 1500 metres might be a bit short but I’m sure he’ll run well.

“I’d like to think he could shape up to be a Wyong Cup and/or Newcastle Cup horse but we’ll see. Hopefully he’s even better than that, you don’t know until you test these horses out at a higher level.”

If Cyber Intervention can progress to those races he is likely to face off with stablemate Destiny’s Kiss who has been sent for a short break before returning to prepare for the provincial Cups double.

Pride’s remaining Rosehill runner will be wet track specialist Miss Exfactor who Pride believes will be suited by the 1100-metres of Saturday’s ATC Foundation Handicap.
