Godolphin’s dual G1-winning mare Alizee has bled and will miss the spring carnival.
Trainer James Cummings reported the incident to stewards, leading to a mandatory three-month ban from racing.
Cummings said blood had been noticed in the mare’s nostrils after she galloped at Osborne Park on Tuesday morning.
“It’s a great shame, she’s such a talented mare who we had high hopes for this spring,” Cummings said.
“Unfortunately there is nothing we can do in a situation like this and she will now have a good rest and hopefully she’ll get her chance in the autumn.”
Under Australian racing rules a horse is banned for three months if it bleeds from both nostrils.
Prior to the news breaking Alizee was favourite for the Myer Classic at Flemington.
