Lindsay Park co-trainer Ben Hayes is hopeful well-bred Conqueror can be a contender for some of the better-class races for three-year-olds during the spring after the colt broke his maiden in style on the Pakenham synthetic track.

One of three two-year-olds from the Lindsay Park stable to win maiden races on Tuesday’s program, Conqueror dominated from the front in his 1400m race against his own age to win by seven lengths.

A son of Fastnet Rock out of New Zealand Group One winner Diademe, Conqueror was having his third start and first since February.

“It was a very, very impressive win. He did everything right,” Hayes, who trains in partnership with his father David and cousin Tom Dabernig, told broadcaster

“He extended right through the line and we really think he’s a horse who will be competing in the big races in the spring. So it’s really exciting to see him do that.”

Conqueror was ridden by Luke Nolen who said the colt had a class edge on his rivals in Tuesday’s maiden.

“Probably with the ambitions the camp has got with him this time in, he would probably want to be doing that,” Nolen said.

“I think when the penny drops he’s going to furnish into a nice horse.”

The Lindsay Park stable’s four winners on the program included fellow two-year-olds Almighty Will and dual stakes-placed colt Memphis Rock who also broke their maidens.
