Miss Wilson will have one more start this campaign in an attempt to claim some black type at Sandown with trainer Simon Morrish to aim high in the autumn.

Long-term, Morrish is looking to next year’s Adelaide carnival with Miss Wilson who contests the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1400m) on Saturday with Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne aboard.

After beginning her career in New Zealand, Miss Wilson was sent to Ballarat to escape the wet weather with an Oaks campaign in mind.

She scored an impressive first-up win for Morrish at Ballarat then failed when she stepped up to 2000m at the same track on October 22.

That forced a programming alteration with a Flemington 1700m race on Oaks day becoming a target, only for a wet track to end those plans.

Instead, the filly headed to Ararat last Sunday and ran second over 1600m.

Miss Wilson is owned in New Zealand by long-time stable clients Richard and Liz Wood, a relationship dating back to the mid 1990s with Count Chivas.

A half-sister to 2010 New Zealand Horse of the Year Jimmy Choux, Miss Wilson has impressed jockeys Dwayne Dunn and Mark Zahra with each telling Morrish she has a nice win in her.

Morrish is unsure whether the filly can stay after her flop at 2000m when she over-raced.

“She’s most probably a seven furlong – miler type, but she’s got ability,” he said.

“Whether she can stay, we’re not sure yet.”

Morrish said a spell now on spring grass would be beneficial for the lightly framed filly.

“With six to eight weeks in the paddock it will be good for her,” Morrish said.

“If she can bulk up and strengthen up it would be great as she’s got a terrific attitude, but she’s just not there yet.”
