Someday has been given a long build-up to recover from injury to ready him for his first start in more than a year.

The seven-year-old gelding has been given 59kg topweight in the Hamilton Hotel Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Someday was once rated one of Brisbane’s most talented gallopers, having won seven races and almost $400,000.

Injuries have hindered his career and Someday hasn’t started since finishing fourth to Big Money in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes in December, 2014.

The gelding was originally trained by Kelso Wood but had three starts for Tony Gollan in the summer of 2014 which included a second placing in the Group Three George Moore Stakes.

“He has had a ligament problem which took a while to overcome. We haven’t rushed him back,” Gollan said.

Gollan said he expected Someday to improve after Saturday’s run.

“He certainly isn’t wound up 100 per cent. But he has some class and I would hope he will race well.”

Gollan is yet to map out a full campaign for Someday who was considered good enough to run in stakes races in Sydney in 2013.

“He has been around in some good-standard races. But whether these days he is better in Saturday handicap company, well, we will have a better idea after Saturday,” Gollan said.

Gollan will also have handy open-company gallopers The Storeman and Whiskey Allround in Saturday’s race.

“They have been going OK and are always a hope in these type of races,” the trainer said.

Gollan’s smart three-year-old Most Important will continue his campaign after a handy sixth in the Magic Millions Guineas.

“There are some very good three-year-olds in the field on Saturday but his last run showed he was up with the better horses,” Gollan said.
