Toowoomba trainer Tony Sears’ confidence in his ability as a judge of racehorses was restored with former Victorian mare Solar Burst’s win at Doomben.

Solar Burst ($9) came from last at the 600m to swamp the field in Wednesday’s Veuve Society Hcp (1650m) and again showed that some horses are not handling the new Eagle Farm racing surface.

It was a far cry from her first start for Sears, when Solar Burst ran ninth in a race at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

David Moodie’s Contract Racing sent Solar Burst to Sears after he had success with their open company sprinter Pillar of Creation.

“I had trialled Solar Burst and thought she was close to a good thing at Eagle Farm. She went terribly and I thought gee, I am a bad judge,” Sears said.

“But back on a dry track today at Doomben she was too classy for them and she will win a better race.”

Another horse, Bracteate ($4.80), who failed at his first two Queensland starts at Eagle Farm, showed his true colours when he won the Class 5 (1350m).

Bracteate was the seventh winner for Aquis Farm since trainer Steve O’Dea starting training for the syndicate two months ago.

“He didn’t handle Eagle Farm at all but back here to Doomben he went a lot better,” O’Dea’s foreman Matt Hoysted said.

Jockey Glen Colless also showed he was a good judge when regally bred Zero Tolerance ($7), who is by Mossman out of the Group One winning mare Bonanova, won the Class 3 (1110m).

“Glen rode her in track work and declared Zero Tolerance a special today. She has come back a lot stronger,” trainer Kelly Schweida said.

Improving mare Polskie Lady ($3.50) raced in a set of colours once carried by champion sprinter Takeover Target when she won a Maiden Plate (1200m) on Wednesday.

Takeover Target’s trainer Joe Janiack is a part owner of Polskie Lady and he sent her to Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan last year.
