Snippet's Land scored his first win in two years at Caloundra

Trainer Peter Snowden admits he considered scratching Snippet’s Land before the gelding scored his first win in two years at Caloundra.

Snippets Land ($20) drew the outside barrier in a field of 17 on Saturday but stormed home late to beat I’m A Rippa by half a length in the Listed Spear Chief Stakes (1400m).

The seven-year-old hadn’t won since taking the 2016 BRC Sprint and Snowden was also looking at spelling him.

“When I saw he had drawn the outside barrier, I really felt that I would probably scratch him and send him for a spell,” Snowden said.

“He also isn’t at his best on wet tracks. But we decided to roll the dice and it has come up a winner.”

Snowden said Snippets Land was an underrated horse who deserved a stakes win again.

“He has had no luck of late from barriers and getting knocked down in races,” Snowden said.

Jim Byrne, who won last year’s Doomben 10,000 on Redzel for Snowden, decided to pride for luck on Snippets Land.

“The pace was good so I let him find his feet and then run home,” Byrne said.
