Anamore was impressive in winning the Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown

Godolphin has made a perfect start to the day with an interstate two-year-old double courtesy of superbly bred debutante Sliders in Newcastle and Anamoe in Melbourne.

The pair are both by Street Boss, who stands at Godolphin’s Darley base in Victoria, and the stallion looks to have produced two smart youngsters.

Sliders, a half sister to Group One winner Flit, raced handy to the speed for Rachel King and pulled too many punches for her rivals to score by a half-length over Snowdrops with Pippa Charlotte another nose away.

Victoria Appleby, representing Godolphin, said Sliders bore no resemblance to Flit but was a talent in her own right.

“Absolutely nothing like her at all, they are chalk and cheese,” Appleby said.

“She is only a little filly but has plenty of scope to grow and hopefully she can be a bit like her half-sister.”

King has done plenty of groundwork with Sliders at home and said the filly did a terrific job to win the Max Lees Classic (900m) on Saturday despite having just one barrier trial.

“I’ve had a bit to do with her during the early parts of her career and she has just been a natural,” King said.

“I think she is very untapped still. She did that very comfortably today.

“She doesn’t quite know how to really put them away yet but coming off the back of one trial, I thought it was really impressive.”

Sliders is likely to be nominated for the Blue Diamond Stakes and the stable expects her to continue to improve with time.

Racing media personality Lizzie Jelfs is a part-owner of placegetter Pippa Charlotte and she was delighted with the debut effort of the Annabel Neasham-trained filly.

“She is not overly big and we didn’t know what was at the bottom of her but I think she’s got a future now,” Jelfs said.

“This is my first share in a horse in Sydney.

“I always wanted to get into a syndicate, especially a womens’ one in support of a female trainer. It’s going great, onwards and upwards.”

Anamoe was also impressive in the Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown, mowing down the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Forbes to win in the final bound.
