Trainer Saeed bin Suroor has confirmed Sky Hunter is on track for the Melbourne Cup following his second in his first race for six months.
The Godolphin-owned five-year-old performed admirably in the rain-softened ground to fill the runner-up spot behind The Corsican in a Group Three 2200m-race at Newbury on Saturday, his first appearance since winning a Group Two in Dubai in March.
“I was very happy with him and he has come out of the race in good form,” bin Suroor said.
“The plan is to take him to Australia for the Melbourne Cup.
“Hopefully that will be his next race.”
