Jason Coyle will look to raise the bar with Siren's Fury in the Brisbane carnival

Trainer Jason Coyle will look to raise the bar at the Brisbane carnival for Siren’s Fury after the mare broke through for her first stakes win in the Group Three Dark Jewel at Scone.

Siren’s Fury was stakes-placed last year as a three-year-old but went up substantially in grade on Saturday from her first-up win in a 1300m benchmark race at Hawkesbury two weeks ago.

She holds entries to the Group One Kingsford Smith Cup on May 28 and the Stradbroke Handicap two weeks later but whether she is aimed that high, Coyle has yet to decide.

“Obviously Queensland is up and running now and we will have to go home and have a look at it,” Coyle said.

“This was a grand final.

“I’m pleased with how she’s returned. She paraded really well and raced like a better horse.”

Siren’s Fury was ridden by Tegan Harrison who spends most of her time in south-east Queensland and northern NSW.

Four years ago, Harrison was riding in the Doomben 10,000 in which she narrowly missed winning the Group One sprint when Temple Of Boom was beaten by his elder brother Spirit Of Boom.

Her rides at Scone included two unplaced runners for Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds, Givem Hell and Granny Red Shoes.

Siren’s Fury was sent out at $16 despite her last-start win with Godolphin mare Ghisoni the $4 favourite ahead of the Hawkes Racing-trained Dyslexic at $4.20.

But Siren’s Fury proved the strongest at her favourite distance, beating the Ciaron Maher-trained Schism ($8.50) by half a length with Ghisoni another long neck third.

Dyslexic finished ninth of the 12 runners, 3-1/2 lengths from the winner.

Siren’s Fury has now won five races, three over 1400 metres and one over 1350, the distance of the Kingsford Smith and Stradbroke.

The shortest-priced favourite on the second day of the Scone carnival, Cradle Mountain ($1.90), was found to be 3/5 lame after finishing unplaced in the benchmark 80 race over 1100 metres.
