A dramatic barrier incident put paid to Sinopia’s racetrack debut and trainer Gerald Ryan is now getting him ready for a second attempt.
After attendants took some time to get him in the gates at Rosehill on Saturday, Sinopia was standing quietly when Nemrud reared up in the barrier next to him and landed in his rival’s stall.
Nemrud crawled out between Sinopia’s hind legs and both colts were withdrawn from the two-year-old race.
Ryan will give Sinopia a jump-out on Tuesday with a view to getting his career underway in Saturday’s Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill.
“He’s as good as gold,” Ryan said.
“He’s got a bit of hair off a hind leg up high but it didn’t break the skin.
“The vet trotted him up this morning and he was fine and I’ll put him through the barriers on Tuesday morning to make sure he’s OK before I decide whether he runs on Saturday.
“I was surprised he took a while to load because he’s always been the perfect gentleman.”
There were 15 entries taken on Monday for the two-year-old race including Pittsburgh who finished second to Faraway Town on Saturday.
Ryan has also entered former Adelaide horse Thermogenic for the Rosehill meeting.
The Northern Meteor four-year-old has had two barrier trials since joining Ryan from premier South Australian trainer Phillip Stokes.
“He hasn’t raced since the Queensland Derby and I still don’t know a lot about him,” Ryan said.
“His two trials have been OK and we’d like to see if he can win a couple of off-season races.”
Ryan will wait until later in the week before deciding whether Crystal Flute runs or heads to a midweek meeting the following Wednesday.
Red Excitement, who was scratched from Saturday’s meeting because of the wet track, will have a barrier trial along with stablemate Peace Force.
“They are both headed to the Festival Stakes on Saturday week and will trial on Thursday,” Ryan said.
“Peace Force lost a shoe when she raced at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and took a bit of her hoof off but she’s fine now.”
