Single Gaze’s first start for new trainer Chris Waller has seen the Caulfield Cup runner up finish dead last in Saturday’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick.
The 2016 Group One Vinery Stud Stakes winner was making her racing return after former connections sold the mare earlier this year with the expectation that she was to be retired to the broodmare barn in Japan.
Single Gaze was bought by Japanese racing supremo Katsumi Yoshida who had since decided to test the mare for a spring campaign.
Single Gaze had planned to target the Cups in Melbourne over the spring with another try at the Caulfield Cup a likely target.
