Seydoux has faced the starter once previously, finishing second to Cecil Street Lad (pictured)

A rise in grade or a drop to maiden company awaits Seydoux after she runs at The Valley.

Trainer Jim Conlan will learn more about the daughter of Xtravagant after she runs in the Plant Powered Cleaning Handicap (1000m) on Saturday.

Seydoux has faced the starter once previously, finishing second to Cecil Street Lad over 1000m at Sandown on July 14.

Conlan did not know what to expect from Seydoux on that occasion but was heartened by her effort.

“She was a bit of an unknown before her debut as she had not been put under any pressure before,” Conlan said.

“She’s a little fiery thing and I’ve always tried to keep her fairly calm and not put her under a lot of pressure in her gallops.

“In her two jump-outs, she was given a very soft time, so how much was left at the other end, we weren’t certain of.

“I certainly expected her to run well and that’s why we started her in town.”

Conlan prepares his horses at Pinecliff, a private training facility on the Mornington Peninsula, and he expects Seydoux to derive improvement from her debut run.

And with a number of two-year-olds engaged in Saturday’s race that showed autumn promise, Conlan is aware it will be a solid test for the filly.

“Normally horses that come out of Pinecliff, they make significant improvement from their first to their second race starts,” Conlan said.

“At Pinecliff it’s a relaxed environment and they don’t have that competition going on around them the whole time like you would at a normal training track.

“But at the end of the day, we’ll come out of the race and know where we sit.

“If we can be somewhere thereabouts at the finish then we can possibly press on to some nice races through the spring, or we can always go back to an Echuca maiden if we feel we’re not at that level.”
