Sedanzer seeks to extend her unbeaten campaign when she returns at Gosford

An unfamiliar track is the only concern for co-trainer Adrian Bott as consistent mare Sedanzer seeks to extend her unbeaten campaign when she returns to black-type racing at Gosford.

Three successive benchmark handicap wins have earned the four-year-old favouritism for the Group Three Belle Of The Turf (1600m) on Thursday, a litmus test for a possible trip to the Magic Millions carnival.

“She’s in such great form at the moment. S he continues to improve and although she’s got to carry the top weight she’s back to fillies and mares,” Bott said.

“If there’s any difficulties for her, it might be the a tight track like that may not be ideal for her racing pattern.”

Sedanzer has never raced at Gosford but has succeeded on different tracks with wins on debut at Hawkesbury and Newcastle on her record.

She also claimed her first win at Randwick on December 16 and Bott was confident Sedanzer was now experienced enough to adapt.

“She’s a lot more tractable races in her now. She’s got a bit more tactical speed. She can position herself better in a race now than she previously could,” he said.

“She’s racing with a lot of confidence and this looks like a natural progression for her.”

Sedanzer was the $2.30 favourite with the TAB on Wednesday ahead of the Joe Pride-trained Pecans ($4.80).

Bott, who trains in partnership with Gai Waterhouse, believes Sedanzer is ready for a return to stakes races after wrapping up her previous campaign with two Group One assignments in South Australia.

She was fifth in the Schweppes Oaks (2010m) on May 6 before being unplaced in the South Australian Derby (2500m) a week later.

“We thought a lot of her to go down there. We’ve always known we’re dealing with a top class filly,” Bott said.

A $125,000 Magic Millions yearling, Sedanzer is tracking to race at the Gold Coast on January 13.

The Fillies and Mares (1300m) appears the obvious choice but Bott is wary of bringing Sedanzer back from 1600 metres and a step up to 2200 metres in the Magic Millions Trophy is an option if her rich vein of form continues at Gosford.
