Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington remains scheduled to proceed despite Melbourne’s wet weather, with the track rated a Heavy 9 ahead of race day.
The Victoria Racing Club confirmed its track management team was closely monitoring the conditions and weather forecasts in consultation with Racing Victoria, with another assessment of the Flemington surface to be conducted on Saturday morning.
The VRC has also adjusted its race-day operations in response to the forecast, shifting outdoor activities indoors where possible.
Indoor hospitality, dining and member facilities are expected to operate as scheduled.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Friday evening forecast listed a 95 per cent chance of rain in Melbourne on Saturday, with between 9mm and 30mm possible and thunderstorms forecast during the morning and afternoon.
The wet conditions have already affected racing elsewhere in Victoria, with Friday night’s Cranbourne meeting and Monday’s Sale meeting both transferred to the Pakenham Synthetic track.
